Description

Do you drive a vehicle that is used for 'special public transport services for people with disabilities' and does the vehicle not meet the entry requirements? If your vehicle meets the conditions below, you can get an exemption. It allows you to register your vehicle free of charge. 

The registration is valid in all Flemish cities with a low emission zone (Ghent and Antwerp) until 31/12/2024 or until the validity of the required documents. The registration is not valid for the LEZ in Brussels.

Conditions

Your vehicle is intended for transporting people with disabilities on the basis of the Flemish Parliament Act of 21 December 2012 on the obligation to provide public transport services to people with disabilities or significantly reduced mobility.

These special transport services are intended for transporting wheelchair users or people with serious disabilities who are unable to move from one stop to another by means of the buses or trams managed by De Lijn. It concerns a public service, hence the name special public transport services for people with disabilities.

Required documents

  • your registration document
  • your European Certificate of Conformity
  • picture with clearly visible number plate and special public transport services features
  • your 'special public transport services for people with disabilities' certification

Procedure

Make an appointment (+32 9 210 10 30) if you want to register your vehicle.

Register your vehicle no later than 1 day after entering the low-emission zone. This ensures that your number plate appears on the list of allowed vehicles in time and prevents you from being fined.
