Applying for permanent residence

What is it about?

If you have a temporary residence card, you can apply for permanent residence after 5 years. The conditions vary depending on the type of residence card.

What are the conditions?

These conditions always apply:

  • You have a valid residence card.
  • You have 5 years of uninterrupted residence.

If you are a recognised refugee or have subsidiary protection status, you can apply for permanent residence 5 years after submitting your asylum application.

How much does it cost?

The application itself is free.

For the residence card, you pay

Standard procedure30 euro
Residence card for children under 129 euro
Urgent procedure133 euro

If you apply for more than one residence card in the urgent procedure for children under 12 who live at your address, you pay €110 from the second card onwards.

What are the steps?

Applying for a B, K, L or F+ card

  • Submit your application online.
  • You will receive an email confirming your application once it has been processed. This email includes your Annex 16 or Annex 22.
  • The processing time at the Immigration Office is approximately 2 months for a B card or 5 months for an F+, L or K card
  • If your application is approved, you will receive an invitation by email to request your residence card. Follow the link in the email to book an appointment.
  • Collect your residence card from the location where you applied.
    No appointment is needed, except at Wijkkantoor Rabot.

Applying for an EU+ or M long-term residence card

  • Book an appointment at Migration.
  • You will receive proof of application (Annex 22).
  • Your new residence card will be requested at the same time.
  • Collect your residence card from the location where you applied.
    No appointment is needed, except at Wijkkantoor Rabot.

Are there exceptions?

You are not required to apply for an EU+, B, M (long-term residence), K or L card.
However, applying for an F+ card is mandatory. If you do not apply, you may receive a fine.
