Authorisation for the LEZ: Ceremonial vehicles

Ceremonial transport that is not allowed to enter the low-emission zone can be registered. The vehicle can then enter the low-emission zone.

What is it about? 

Vehicles over 40 years old used for ceremonial transport will be eligible for authorisation at the standard rate from 27 April 2024.

What are the conditions? 

  • Your vehicle is at least 40 years old at the start date of the authorisation  
  • Your vehicle has a permit for individual paid passenger transport: ceremonial transport. 

How much does it cost? 

Standard rate  

  • 1 week: €30 
  • 1 month: €60 
  • 4 months: €160    
  • 1 year: € 420 

What do you need? 

  • your bank card and card reader  

You don't need anything else. The City of Ghent will check for you whether you are eligible for authorisation.

Make sure the application for your vehicle is submitted no later than 1 day after you entered the low-emission zone. That way, you will avoid a fine. 

Please note: The decision on your application is not final until you receive confirmation. The processing of your application may take up to 14 days. If you enter the low-emission zone in Ghent before receiving confirmation, you do so at your own risk. If your application is subsequently rejected, you may receive a fine. It is therefore best to register in advance.
