Entry requirements after 2025

The access requirements will become more stringent in 2025, 2027 and 2028. Please take this into account when buying a car.

Petrol/LPG/CNG and LNG

  • From 1/1/2025: at least Euro standard 3
  • From 1/1/2028: at least Euro standard 4

Diesel

  • From 1/1/2025: at least Euro standard 6
  • From 1/9/2027: free entry for vehicles meeting at least Euro standard 6d, only valid for vehicle category M1 (passenger cars), M2 (minibuses for more than 8 passengers with a mass under 5 tonnes) and N1 (delivery vans with a mass under 3.5 tonnes).

Check your vehicle's Euro standard and fuel type

  • Euro standard: the Euro standard is a European environmental standard for vehicles and is indicated by means of a number. The higher the Euro standard, the lower the emissions. The Euro standard for trucks and buses is indicated by means of a Roman numeral.

  • Fuel type: the entry requirements are more stringent for diesel-powered cars than for petrol, CNG, LNG or LPG-powered cars. As a matter of fact, diesel-powered cars emit more soot and particulate matter.
Your vehicle's Euro standard is indicated in the registration document in the 'environmental category' section. You are unable to find the applicable Euro standard in your registration document? Then the date of first registration will determine whether you can enter the low emission zone with your vehicle.
