Submit online or make an appointment at the counter?
On this page you will find out more about whether you can submit your file online or whether you need to make an appointment at the counter.
Depending on the type of your application, you can submit your file online using the e-form or by e-mail, or you can make an appointment at the counter.
Below you will find information for each product, with the different application possibilities.
Students have to submit their file for a first application or for an extension via the e-form for students.
First read the information brochure in order to find out what type of document you can request and which documents you need:
The form will give you information on the documents you need to include in your application.
Expats can submit their file with the Expat Counter by email. In this information brochure you can find information on who is considered to be an expat and which documents you have to submit.
The categories listed below have to submit their file via the e-form various online applications.
- extension of A-card on the basis of family reunification with a third-country national (art. 10 (bis))
- extension of declaration of arrival (short stay for third-country nationals)
- extension of stay for researchers with hosting agreements or employment with professional card or exemption.
- documents in the context of a socio-economic investigation (= investigation whether the residence condition in the context of a family reunification is still met)
- additional documents after the start of a procedure as a EU citizen or family member and after receipt of annex 19 or annex 19 ter
- application for humanitarian regularisation (procedure art. 9 bis)
- application for B-card (= unlimited right of residence) for recognised* refugees and persons with subsidiary protection status

The form will give you information on the documents you need to include in your application.
The applications below can be submitted by e-mail via loketmigratie@stad.gent or via the email address of a service centre
- New application of EU employees.
Note: your file has to be complete! For questions relating to the documents that must be submitted, please consult the Infopunt Migratie (Migration Information Center). - For all applications for long/unlimited stay (with the exception of recognised refugees / persons with subsidiary protection status: see e-form various online applications)
- The application for an extension of your A-card that must be approved by the Immigrant Office.
Note: applications for students and family reunification with third-country nationals (art. 10(bis)) are to be made via the e-form (see above). Contact the Infopunt Migratie (Migration Information Center) if you have doubts.
