Applying for regularisation
If you do not qualify for a residence procedure, you may apply for regularisation. This is an exceptional procedure.

Submitting a regularisation request
There are two types of regularisation. You can submit a request for:
- Humanitarian reasons (also known as 9bis).
This must be done online. - Medical reasons (also known as 9ter).
This must be done by sending a registered letter to:

Is the check positive?
If you applied for humanitarian reasons, we will forward your application to the Immigration Office. You will receive a confirmation of receipt.
If you applied for medical reasons and the Immigration Office declares your application admissible, you will receive an orange card for three months. While awaiting a decision, your orange card will be extended every three months.The Immigration Office does not have a fixed processing time. It may take a long time before you receive a decision.
Is the check negative?
Your file will be closed, and you will receive a negative decision. -
After the decision
If you receive a positive decision, you will be invited to apply for a residence card.
If you receive a negative decision, the Immigration Office will send a reasoned decision to the City of Ghent. This may include an order to leave the territory.
