SDG Voluntary Local Review
The first SDG Voluntary Local Review of Ghent is a benchmark sustainability report, a picture of the City of Ghent in 2020 for all 17 SDGs.
The City of Ghent is an important ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Flanders. During this legislature, we are moving up a gear with the publication of an annual SDG Voluntary Local Review.
Ghent's first SDG Voluntary Local Review (2020)
The first SDG Voluntary Local Review is a starting report. It takes the form of a baseline Sustainability Report, based on situational and context information. The data in this report date from before April 2020 and do not yet show the impact of the corona crisis.
We describe as few ambitions or current projects as possible. This report forms the starting point for the discussions with stakeholders of the city, consultation forums and advisory boards in the selection of sustainable projects. These sustainable projects will be put in the spotlight in the reports of 2021, 2022, 2023.

Next reports (2021 - 2025)
In 2021, we will shift the focus to the first 5 SDGs, under the heading "People", and we will involve stakeholders in the selection of striking sustainable projects. In 2022, the focus will be on "Prosperity" and in 2023 on "Planet". SDG 16 and 17 are included as a common thread in every report. We will end the cycle with a final report in 2024/25 in which we return to the starting report to see which evolutions are visible in Ghent in terms of sustainability.
