The international policy breaks down into two aspects: international solidarity and international cooperation. This requires a city-wide approach, involving quite a lot of policy areas, e.g. culture, youth, economy, climate, peace, education, tourism, mobility, health, social cohesion and marketing. The first point of contact is the Service of International Relations and Networks (including Vredeshuis. A few services that are closely involved are Protocol and Strategic Subsidies. But the internationalisation of Ghent is in the first place made possible by the business world, the port, the cultural establishments, the knowledge institutions, the care sector, civil society and the numerous “Ghentians” in and outside Ghent.
