Ghent is committed to reducing flood risks through European project

Ghent is participating in RISE-IN, a European project that focuses on smart flood prevention and sustainable investments.

De Krook

Ghent is a partner in RISE-IN (Resilient Investment for Sustainable Environments), a European project focused on reducing flood risks through sustainable and scalable solutions.

RISE-IN bridges the gap between ecological resilience and financial feasibility. As a replicator city, Ghent will adapt and apply a successful flood management model previously demonstrated in Cesena (Italy), Christchurch (New Zealand), and Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal).

Together with 23 partners from 13 countries, Ghent helps shape a future where cities are better prepared for climate change and where sustainable solutions are not only effective, but also financially viable.

Goals of the project

The project focuses on:

  • Nature-based solutions for flood risk management.
  • Innovative financing models that make climate-resilient interventions more attractive to investors.
  • The development of the Bankability Readiness Level – a new tool to assess and unlock the investment potential of climate solutions.

Budget

The project is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme, as part of the Mission on Climate Adaptation. RISE-IN runs until 30 April 2030. Ghent receives €203,778 in EU funding to support its local activities.

RISE-IN receives funding from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and HorizonEurope, under Grant Agreement no.  101214441.
